Cholesterol

Another factor that can be hazardous to our health is cholesterol. In this topic, I'm gonna discuss all about cholesterol, it's effect, types and many more.

First lets know more what cholesterol is:

This handout is for people who are eager to learn more about cholesterol levels and health. Cholesterol is a kind of fat (lipid) made by the body. It is necessary for good health and is found in every cell in the body. On the other hand, a high cholesterol level in the blood (hypercholesterolaemia) is linked with an increased peril of heart disease and stroke. Seven out of 10 people over 45 have high cholesterol.

Why is High Cholesterol a Problem?

The major risk linked with high cholesterol is cardiova
scular disease (CVD). This comprises diseases of the heart and blood vessels. High cholesterol causes blood vessels to become narrowed with fatty deposits called plaques. This can result in heart attacks, strokes and blood vessel problems. For more information just search Cholesterol in the search box you can see in this page.

Types of Cholesterol:

Cholesterol is elated around the body in the blood attached to a protein. This mixture of fat and protein is called a lip
oprotein. Lipoproteins can be high density (HDL), low density (LDL) or very low density (VLDL), depending on how much protein there is in relation to fat.

LDL (low density lipoprotein)

Most of the body's cholesterol is elated as LDL. This is made up of frequently fat and a small quantity of protein. Too much LDL in the blood can cause cholesterol deposits to build up in the arteries, making it harder for the blood to stream through these blood vessels. High levels of LDL in the blood are linked with an increased danger of CVD. So LDL is sometimes referred to as " bad cholesterol".

HDL (high density lipoprotein)

A small quantity of cholesterol is elated as HDL, which is mostly made up of protein and a small quantity of fat.

HDL actually helps prevent cholesterol deposits building up in the arteries. Having low levels of HDL (compared with LDL) in the blood is associated with an increased risk of CVD. So HDL is sometimes referred to as "good cholesterol". Women tend to have a higher levels of HDL cholesterol than men.

Triglycerides

Triglycerides are a different type of fat, which mostly come from fats in your food. Energy that is eaten and not used immediately is converted into triglycerides and transported to fat cells for storage. This is an important source of stored energy.

Although most triglycerides are stored in fat tissue, low levels are also found in the blood. They are carried in the blood as very low density lipoproteins (VLDL).

Causes of of high cholesterol:

There are several factors that may contribute to high blood cholesterol:
  • a diet that's high in saturated fat and, less so, high in cholesterol (see How diet affects cholesterol below)

  • lack of exercise may increase LDL ("bad") cholesterol and decrease HDL ("good") cholesterol
  • family history - people are at a higher risk of high cholesterol if they have a direct male relative aged under 55 or a female relative aged under 65 affected by heart disease
  • being overweight, which may increase LDL ("bad") cholesterol and decrease HDL ("good") cholesterol
  • age and sex - cholesterol generally rises slightly with increasing age, and men are more likely to be affected than women
  • drinking more than the recommended amount of alcohol (ie more than three to four units per day for men and two to three units per day for women)

JSP

For me using JSP in creating web pages are very fun and interesting. At first i thought it was hard but as time pass by after doing some projects with JSP, it's been easy although their are parts which sometimes it's hard like when you would combine JSP codes with database. In our project(shopping cart) we used and concentrated more with JSP codes but for me I didn't mingle more about the codes because i was assigned on the design of our web page, my job was quite easy. Being a programmer is not easy but with servers like JSP, some impossible things can be made possible.

High Blood Pressure

Hmm Another important topic to talk about right? but what really is high blood pressure and it's risk and effects? What are the causes in having a high blood pressure? Know all the answers of these questions.

First lets know what high blood pressure is:

High blood pressure intensify your possibility (or risk) for having a heart ailment and/or kidney ailment, and for having a stroke. It is above all hazardous because it often has no warning signs or symptoms. Despite of race, age, or gender, anyone can develop high blood pressure. It is estimated that one in every four American adults has high blood pressure. Once high blood pressure develops, it typically lasts a lifetime. You can avoid and control high blood pressure by taking action.

Risk and effects of blood pressure:

* Brai
n

Effect: Stroke

High blood pressure is the most vital risk aspect for stroke. Very high pressure can cause a shatter in a destabilized blood vessel, which then bleeds in the brain. This can cause a stroke. If a blood clot blocks one of the narrowed arteries, it can also cause a stroke.

* Eyes
Effect: Impaired Vision

High blood pressure can ultimately cause blood vessels in the eye to rupture or bleed. Vision may become unclear or otherwise impaired and can result in blindness.

* Arteries

As people get older, arteries all over the body "solidify," mostly those in the heart, brain, and kidneys. High blood pressure is linked with these "stiffer" arteries. This, in turn, causes the heart and kidneys to work harder.

* Kidneys
Effect: Kidney Damage

The kidneys perform as filters to clear the body of wastes. Over time, high blood pressure can slender and thicken the blood vessels of the kidneys. The kidneys filter less fluid, and waste builds up in the blood. The kidneys may not function well. When this happens, medical treatment (dialysis) or a kidney transplant may be needed.

* Heart

Effects: Heart Attack and Congestive Heart failure

High blood pressure is a main risk issue for heart attack. The arteries transport oxygen-carrying blood to the heart muscle. If the heart cannot get enough oxygen, chest pain, also known as "angina," can happen. If the flow of blood is blocked, a heart attack results.
High blood pressure is the number one risk aspect for congestive heart failure (CHF). CHF is a grave condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to provide the body's needs.

Causes of High Blood Pressure

The causes of high blood pressure differ. Causes may comprise narrowing of the arteries, a greater than normal volume of blood, or the heart beating faster or more forcefully than it should. Any of these circumstances will cause increased pressure against the artery walls. High blood pressure might also be caused by another medical problem. Most of the time, the cause is not known. Although high blood pressure usually cannot be cured, in most cases it can be prevented and controlled.
